Global Fashion Awards shortlist announcement

The following shortlist of nominees was announced at the W Hotel in London this Wednesday, from whom a final winner in all 17 categories will be selected on Nov 5th.

The final winners will be selected by a prominent panel of judges (consult full list here: Judges) from around the world. The winners will be announced at the WGSN Global Fashion Awards ceremony which takes place at The Savoy in London on Monday 5th November.

The categories focus on individual designers, design teams, and best store designs across apparel, accessories, footwear, retail and etail.

DESIGNERS - INDIVIDUAL

Emerging Designer
Rewards new talent and provides a showcase for the industry across the globe. A menswear, womenswear or footwear & accessories designer whose label is less than four years old.
Shortlist: Byungmun Seo, Fannie Schiavoni, Masha Reva, Emma Yeo

The LYCRA® Future Designers Award
The most innovative and inspirational new designers to emerge from the world’s design schools set to take the world by storm.
Shortlist: Derek Clarkson, Shireeka Devlin, Charli Cohen, Esther Kruyerr

Footwear & Accessories Designer (nomination only)
A designer who creates shoes and/or accessories that often really define a trend and can excite the consumer just as much, if not more so, than ready-to-wear.
Shortlist: Emma Hill for Mulberry, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Charlotte Olympia, Loewe

The CATRICE Womenswear Designer (nomination only)
The designers, be they veterans of many catwalks or rising stars, who set the agenda for the rest of the industry.
Shortlist: Victoria Beckham, Alexander Wang, Christopher Kane, Jonathan Saunders

Menswear Designer (nomination only)
Whether head of a design house or an up and coming talent, this is a designer who pushes the boundaries in menswear and their influence is felt far and wide.
Shortlist: Paul Surridge for Z Zegna, Patrick Grant for E. Tautz, Kim Jones for Louis Vuitton, Dries Van Noten


DESIGNERS - TEAM

Denim Design team
A new category rewarding the team that produces the most compelling denim offer and who consistently stay ahead on trend and innovation in fit, fabric, colour and finish.
Shortlist: Levi's Commuter Series, Isko, G-Star, Current/Elliott

Intimates/Swim Design Team
A new category that recognises the world’s best team in one of fashion’s most technically demanding categories. The design team that stays ahead of trends in colour, pattern, shapes and cut as well as innovations in fabric and construction.
Shortlist: Seafolly, Victoria's Secret, Marks and Spencer, OndadeMar

Sports/Activewear Design Team
The team that sets the agenda in this growing and increasingly influential sector, producing desirable products from the point of view of trend, colour and fit but which also exploits innovations in fabrication and construction to produce product that truly performs.
Shortlist: Sweaty Betty, The North Face, Lorna Jane, Bogner Ski Wear, adidas


Buying Team (multi-brand retailer/etailer)
The team who have a great appreciation and eye for outstanding design and which supports both established and emerging designers and brands. The team whose buy appeals to and challenges its target customer base yielding consistent commercial success season upon season.
Shortlist: NET-A-PORTER, Liberty, Merci, Opening Ceremony

Footwear & Accessories Design Team
The team that produces a collection that excites the consumer every season with covetable must-haves. Rewards innovation in design, colour, fabrication, construction and sustainable practices.
Shortlist: marc by Marc Jacobs, The Cambridge Satchel Company, Kurt Geiger, Pikolinos

Womenswear Design Team
The design team that continues to connect with its target customer base and grow it season upon season. The team which not only keeps ahead of industry trends but also creates its own while maintaining strong brand handwriting. Rewards innovation in design practices, production and sustainability, taking into account price points and appropriateness of product for its target market.

Menswear Design Team
The team that works collaboratively to produce collections that reflect an overall brand vision and which connect with and, where required, challenge the customer. Rewards innovative use of fabric, colour and design techniques as well as sustainable initiatives.

Kidswear Design Team
The team that produces product that is on-trend, characterful and appropriate for this important and challenging market. Rewards innovations in fabrication, production and sustainability.

STORE DESIGN

Best Multichannel Retailer
A brand or retailer that exploits each channel to its best advantage whilst retaining a strong and coherent brand experience and who make the customer journey between the various channels as seamless as possible. Rewards design, shopability and customer experience.
Shortlist: Aurora Fashions, Calvin Klein, Farm, OrotonGroup

Best New Store/Refit
Best new standalone store or refitted store (or department of a department store) with the emphasis on finding an environment that pushes boundaries in terms of design and customer interaction, but which also stays true to and reinforces the essence of the brand.
Shortlist: ALTER (Shanghai), C. Wonder (New York), Puma (Amsterdam), Cheap Monday (London), Burberry (London)

Best E-Store (pure play)
Etailers who have done the most to push the boundaries of the digital channel. Rewards site design and shopability, product offer, customer acquisition and service innovations, mobile execution and strategy, dynamic presentation of content, as well as customer engagement techniques.

Best Store
The ultimate award for any fashion retailer that inspires everyone who passes through its doors. Rewards product offer, in-store experience, customer service, in-store displays and other innovative features that engage and excite the consumer.
