Goodyear debuts summer footwear collection
Goodyear Licensed Products, a division of the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, debuts the Goodyear Performance Collection for men online.
The men’s footwear collection consists of five footwear styles including canvas sneakers and racing-inspired sneakers. The sneakers’ soles also feature tire tread patterns, which nod to the company’s position as the world’s largest tire company.
"Having this line available from coast to coast in time for the easy days of summer enables us to introduce our heritage to a wide range of consumers," said Nancy Ray, director of licensed products at The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. "We are proud to be working with respected retailers to help launch our shoe collection across the U.S."
Goodyear has a long history with footwear production that dates back to 1869. The Goodyear welt gets its name from the company and was pioneered by Charles Goodwin Jr. The welt is stitched to a shoe’s upper and gemming, or a strip of canvas, which is then cemented to a shoe’s insole. The space created by the welt is filled with cork or another filler material and the outsole is cemented and stitched to the welt. The process is very time-consuming, but it is still considered to be the best method for footwear construction.
In 1892, the United States Rubber Company was founded with the consolidation of nine rubber manufacturing companies, one of which was Goodyear, and in 1916, the company produced all of its footwear under the name Keds.
Goodyear recently nominated SCL Footwear Group, LLC as the licensee manufacturer and distributor for all categories of men's, women's and children's footwear for Goodyear in the US and Canada. SCL Footwear was re-established in 2009 as a resource for Work Safety and Industrial footwear servicing the United States and Canada markets.
The Goodyear Performance Collection ranges in price from $60 to $80 and is available at over 180 stores nationwide. This month, the new line will be showcased on Amazon.
