Hyères Festival reaches new milestone

Published
Apr 28, 2015

The 30th International Festival of Fashion and Photography, which ended on the evening of April 26, ended with very positive results. Never has the event attracted such high attendance and so many celebrities, such as Caroline of Monaco, garnering unanimous praise from participants and visitors who came to Hyères this past weekend.

Under the direction of Chanel, both the event’s main sponsor and special guest this year, the Festival immediately took on another dimension. What a journey, given that the first editions were held in a concrete gymnasium at Espace 3000 at the city’s entrance…and now its held at the Villa Noailles, overlooking the bay!

"This year, there were a lot more people. Chanel's presence was felt and it immediately brought the festival to a new level, giving it more visibility," commented a long-time attendee. The great fashion house, a partner of the Festival since 2014, was named guest of honor for the 30th edition.

And it’s worth remembering that "the most important part of Hyères is what you don’t see." In other words, it’s the exchanges that take place in the Villa’s halls. "It's the quality of the people you meet in Hyères that makes the festival so worthwhile. It’s been held for 30 years - it’s the only one with such longevity. What's great is that it continues to expand at every level," said Stéphane Wargnier.

«Une étape majeure a été franchie en termes de retombées et de visibilité. Avec Chanel, on a assisté à une montée en puissance du festival, sans qu’il n

That same maturity could be felt in the collections presented this year by the 10 finalists. Most of the designers unveiled wok that was already very accomplished demonstrating a great mastery of cuts and extensive research in terms of fabrics.

Chanel’s touch was definitely felt in terms of the fashion competition’s selection of finalists, with the jury including Chanel’s studio director, Virginie Viard, serving as its chair, and Karl Lagerfeld serving as artistic director of the event.

The festival also added an extra day. Will it keep it next year? And more importantly, how will it go about it post-Chanel? We’ll see in 2016.
