Intersport International records turnover in 2014 down by 2%

Published

In 2014, Intersport International’s sales amounted to 10.5 billion euros, up 2% compared to the previous year. Its growth was particularly driven by the FIFA World Cup held in Brazil.

Over the course of the year, sales of soccer-related products at Intersport, the event’s official store, reached one billion euros, as compared to 850 million euros during the 2012 UEFA European Championship. It’s worth noting that 600,000 jerseys from the victorious German soccer team were sold.

Its running and fitness divisions also performed well, with double-digit growth, while, largely due to the weather, its winter sports division saw declines.

More broadly, Germany, France, Britain and Canada remained Intersport International’s most important markets. Italy and Spain, meanwhile, returned to growth, while northern European countries, as well as Switzerland, saw their sales stagnate or decline, impacted by lackluster results from the company’s winter division. As of the end of 2014, there were 5,490 Intersport stores in 44 countries.

Its chain Athlete's Foot, meanwhile, which the company acquired in December 2012, generated 290 million euros, up by 7.5%. In the midst of new development, Athlete's Foot, which includes 392 stores in 25 countries in America, Europe and Asia, will be opening its first store in North Africa in the coming months following the conclusion of a master franchise agreement in Algeria.

During its first quarter, Intersport International published a turnover of 2.6 billion euros, up 2.6% compared to the same period last year. For its entire year, the group expects growth of 2 to 4%.
