John Lewis reports "solid performance" in week to May 2
May 8, 2015
British department store retailer John Lewis saw its sales increase by 2.8% to £76.99m in the week to May 2.

The company said Fashion had a good week, with sales up 17.2%. Those figures were driven by good growth in non-promotional areas, as well as price-matching activity. The best results were seen in menswear and sports, where sales were up by 25.5% and every office was up on last year.
John Lewis also reported "stand-out" results for women's shoes, handbags, premium beauty, swimwear and nightwear. Online did well, too, with johnlewis.com sales up 17%. Again, this was supported by price matching activity, which especially accelerated the growth in fashion.
"We have started this week off well making the most of the May bank holiday. With the election this week, many will have had their eyes elsewhere, but now is the time to refocus our customers on our fantastic offer!" said Tim Harrison, Director, Store Development, John Lewis.
