Kering and the Cannes International Film Festival have signed a five-year partnership. Kering will be an "official partner of the Cannes International Film Festival" starting with the festival’s 68th edition, to be held from May 13-24. 2015. It is thereby joining other Cannes sponsors, which include L'Oreal and luxury watch and jewelry maker Chopard.
The company’s apparel and accessories brands (excluding jewelry) will also be partners of the festival, gaining an exceptional degree of media visibility throughout the event.
Through the partnership, Kering aims to contribute to reflection and debate regarding the role of women in cinema. Whether that means showcasing the industry’s most talented women - directors, producers, screenwriters, actors -, or discussing how they are represented behind and in front of the camera, or analyzing the specifics of the female narration, Kering is to organize exchanges throughout the event with public figures, who will be asked to share their points of view.
"Kering has been committed to empowering women for many years,” reads the statement, “primarily through the Kering Foundation as well as the Chime for Change initiative launched by Gucci, to empower women and girls around the world."
Kering also emphasized its long-standing commitment to the film industry, particularly through its brands. Film financing, the restoration of film masterpieces, documentary film making, support for films in competition are, amongst other initiatives, part of Kering’s involvement with cinema over the past years. The Group and its brands also support other international institutions and events, such as the TriBeca Film Institute in New York and the Venice International Film Festival, in addition to sponsoring numerous awards for filmmakers.
