London Collections Men: Coach channels youthful rebellion for spring 2017

The New-York-based brand presented its spring/summer 2017 menswear collection on the final day of London men's shows, Monday, June 13. Coach tore up conventions in homage to rebellious youth, with an audacious and eclectic collection revisiting American wardrobe staples with a fresh, fun feel.

Stuart Vevers, Coach creative director since 2013, unveiled a new menswear collection to an audience of fashion icons, including Kate Moss, who took in one of the most eagerly awaited shows of the British capital's latest menswear week.

True to form, the luxury leather goods maker drew inspiration from US culture. This season, however, the label chose to bring playful humor to its reinterpreted classics, laced with a punky rock ‘n' roll vibe reflecting the collection's young and rebellious energy.

Three key pieces illustrate the season's concept perfectly: the biker jacket, the bomber jacket and the varsity jacket. These iconic designs have all been totally revisited for SS17 and were shown worn with chic pants, sweat pant styles and slim-cut leather trousers. A collection highlight came from American artist Gary Baseman -- a previous Coach collaborator -- whose hand-painted and -printed picture motifs were seen on a selection of jackets, including leather biker jackets.

As well as the strong presence of prints, the collection featured lots of fringing and studs, seen on jackets, bags and shoes. A few animal print fabric panels were spotted on the catwalk, while zips and badges abounded.

Coach's colors of the season were mostly black, white and red, with a few hints of yellow, midnight blue, rust and burgundy. Khaki was also seen on military-inspired pieces.

Although Coach mainly stuck to male models, the label also starred three female models in its latest menswear show, with Lexi Boling leading the pack.
