Currently under construction, the Musée du Parfum Paris will open to the public this June in the 9th arrondissement of the French capital. The new museum is an initiative of Maison Fragonard, the fragrance brand founded in 1926 in Grasse, in the south of France.

Just around the corner from the Opéra Garnier, the future museum will soon be the place to go to learn about the history and the insider secrets of the perfume industry.

The perfume museum will take up residence at 3-5 Square de l'Opéra Louis Jouvet, a space with an unusual history. Home to the Eden Théâtre in the 19th century, the venue was transformed into a cycling arena a few years later. From June, this Parisian locale will become a museum celebrating centuries (perhaps even millennia) of the art of fragrance.

The museum will consist of two separate areas. In the first, Maison Fragonard will give visitors an insider's view on the perfume making process -- from the formulation of new scents by professional noses to the manufacturing process (harvesting and processing ingredients, bottling the final product). In the second space, dedicated to the history of perfume from ancient times to today, fragrance fans will follow the evolution of the industry through a presentation of rare artifacts from the past three centuries.

Designed by the architect François Muracciole, the museum will open to the public this June.
