Maroc in Mode and Maroc Sourcing see growth in attendance

Published
Nov 7, 2014

Maroc in Mode and Maroc Sourcing were established to promote the Moroccan textile industry and to put buyers in contact with producers. The joint events respectively held their twelfth and eleventh editions on October 14 and 15.

This year saw positive growth, judging by the overall figures provided by its organizer, Amith (Moroccan Association of Textile and the Apparel).

2573 visitors roamed the aisles of the event held in Casablanca, as compared with 2,200 last year. The number of international buyers, however, declined. They totaled at 697 last month, as compared with 865 in 2013.

Exhibitors noticed the decline, finding the event to be fairly calmer than the previous edition. Buyers, the majority of whom were invited to Morocco by the organizers, primarily came from Spain (Bimba y Lola, El Corte Ingles, Iturri, Mango and Inditex inevitable), France (Carroll, Freeman T Porter, Monoprix, Jules, La Halle...), Italy (Cristina Effe, Industries Spa, Stefanel, Miroglio), Germany (Bultel, Ernstings Family, Daniel Hechter, Mustang) and a few more than usual from the UK (Barbour, House of Fraser, Perry Ellis, River Island...).

Visitors have tended to represent more upscale brands in recent seasons, according to exhibitors. While the latter found things to be a bit quieter this year, they nevertheless were satisfied with the quality of buyers who did make the trip so that “two or three meetings was enough" to make the two days worth it.

Certain exhibitors particularly welcomed the change in the makeup of international visitors, allowing them to make new contacts with fashion trend experts, an important niche for many in the Moroccan textile industry who aim to take advantage of fast-fashion model by positioning themselves as part of the local distribution network.
