Milly and Laurie Simmons launch Planned Parenthood tees
Milly has collaborated with artist Laurie Simmons to create a new limited-edition tee shirt capsule collection to benefit Planned Parenthood.
The tee shirts were designed by Milly cofounder and creative director Michelle Smith along with Simmons. The two designs retail for $75 each and 100 percent of the profits go to Planned Parenthood.
Simmons is an artist who focuses on women's rights. The tee designs are part of a five piece series called Walking & Lying Objects which is designed to discuss female empowerment and gender equality.
The first four images of the artist's series were produced as prints which sold out during Planned Parenthood's 100th anniversary party last year. The fifth image is now featured on one of the Milly tees along with another option that reads "100 years strong."
Last May, Smith created the first Milly tee to celebrate Planned Parenthood's 100th anniversary. That spirited graphic tee said "DONT F*CK WITH US, DONT F*CK WITHOUT US" and sold for $90 each with a portion of proceeds going to the organization. The tee was also given to each of the 1,400 guests at the 100th anniversary party.
Smith said, “I’ve been a Planned Parenthood supporter for years, but wanted to come up with a way to support that was meaningful and close to my heart and the work I do as a designer." Smith said she hopes this new tee designed with Simmons will leverage both the fashion and art platforms to raise awareness for Planned Parenthood.
The Milly tee is now available online through Milly's ecommerce site as well as in Milly stores in Soho, Madison Avenue and East Hampton.
