Oscar de la Renta taps Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim as creative director duo

Published

After the shock departure of Peter Copping in July, Oscar de la Renta has named Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim co-creative directors of the house.

Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim named co-creative directors of Oscar de la Renta - SCAD

The design duo worked previously under Oscar de la Renta for a combined 18 years before leaving to launch their own line, Monse. Kim spent 12 years at Oscar de la Renta, and Garcia spent 6 years there, leaving as design director and senior designer, respectively, in 2015.

“We are beyond thrilled to go back to the house where we learned the fundamentals of fashion from Oscar and the business of fashion from Alex. Having further learned so much this past year with Monse, we will apply all of those lessons to expand the vision that this amazing house has already established,” Kim and Garcia said in a statement.

House founder Oscar de la Renta passed away in 2014. Copping was then appointed creative director, lasting just two years.
