In honour of the Phoenix Art Museum supported by the Arizona Costume Institute’s 50th anniversary, the museum received a $2 million endowment on Wednesday.

The endowment from Jacquie Dorrance, longtime Museum patron and member of Phoenix Art Museum’s Board of Trustees will provide a permanent funding source for the curator of fashion design position which will be named the Jacquie Dorrance Curator of Fashion Design.

The gift will also commemorate the 16-year tenure of Dennita Sewell, the current curator of fashion design.

“Jacquie Dorrance’s vision, leadership and profound generosity will have a transformative impact on the Museum’s ability not only to develop fashion exhibitions and programming, but to retain and invest in our curatorial talent for decades to come,” says Amada Cruz, the Museum’s Sybil Harrington Director, in a news statement.

The Phoenix Art Museum’s fashion design collection has more than 8,000 objects including American and European men’s, women’s, and children’s dress and accessories dating from the late 17th century to the present.
