The Swiss watch brand is showing off its latest innovation, the "RM 07-01 Gem-Set Black Ceramic" at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) luxury watch show, which opened Monday, January 15 in Geneva. For the first time, Richard Mille has created a black ceramic watch set with numerous brilliant-cut diamonds.

After revealing a gem-set NTPT carbon watch, Richard Mille has moved on to black ceramic, with a model combining this high-resistance material with brilliant-cut diamonds, selected for their exceptional clarity. The result is the "RM 07-01 Gem-Set Black Ceramic," a breakthrough in the world of luxury watchmaking.

"After our work on setting gems in Carbon TPT, we wanted to extend this innovative setting technique to new materials," explains Cécile Guenat, technical director for jewelry making at Richard Mille. "We naturally gravitated to ceramic, because it had never been done before. There is now no subterfuge in the way diamonds are incorporated, thanks to way the mitraillage is performed by machining the material directly."

The black ceramic watch case -- set with diamonds held by red gold prongs -- houses a 5N red gold dial, also set with diamonds and a black onyx. Combining elegance with high-end watchmaking expertise, this model runs the in-house Calibre CRMA2, an automatic movement with hours and minutes functions.

The "RM 07-01 Gem-Set Black Ceramic" is currently being previewed at SIHH 2018, which runs until January 19 in Geneva, Switzerland.
