Signet Jewelers names Board member Virginia “Gina” C. Drosos as CEO
Signet Jewelers on Monday announced the appointment of Virginia “Gina” C. Drosos as Chief Executive Officer, effective August 1, 2017. She will succeed Mark Light, who has served as CEO since 2014, and has decided to retire after 35 years with the company.
Drosos, who possesses over 29 years of executive leadership experience in beauty, has served on the Signet Board of Directors since 2012. She previously served as President & CEO of Assurex Health and spent 25 years at Proctor & Gamble, where she most recently oversaw the $6 billion Global Beauty Care business unit as Group President.
“I want to welcome Gina as Signet’s new CEO,” said Todd Stitzer, Chairman of Signet’s Board of Directors. “She is a visionary and transformational leader with a proven track record of growing and scaling global businesses through winning strategies and innovation. Gina’s experience brings a unique combination of demonstrated brand building, given her strong background in beauty, along with the creativity, flexibility and boldness of an entrepreneurial mindset.”
Stitzer added that Drosos, who is the first female CEO for Signet, is very familiar with the company’s strategic vision and has been pivotal in the realignment of the company’s organizational structure.
Drosos’ appointment follows a myriad of sexual harassment and discrimination allegations against Signet at the start of this year. The company was in hot water for allegations against executives at Sterling Jewelers, who allegedly paid male workers more than female workers, overlooked promotions, and subjected female employees to routine sexual harassment for decades.
As a result of the allegations, Signet formed a board committee of four female directors, focused on the advancement of female employees.
