The European Man-Made Fibres Association has announced the election of Heinz Meierkord as its new president. His tasks are complex, as the industry faces market fluctuations and an unstable environment.

"The current situation of the man-made fibres industry, in Europe and also globally, is characterized by many uncertainties,” said Meierkord. "However, our European industry – the second largest in the world – has many strengths. Not only is it the most innovative and the most sustainable worldwide, but it also manufactures high quality and unique speciality products, which provide the base for a bright future. CIRFS will continue to support and to help further develop the industry, building on its strengths."

The European synthetic fibers industry generates a turnover of 10 billion euros ($12.5/£7.9). The CIRFS’s sees its role as offering services and advice to companies while also representing the sector to various European agencies and authorities.
