Target and Marimekko partner on spring capsule collection

Target announced on Tuesday that its 2016 spring capsule collection is with Finnish design house Marimekko.
 
Marimekko for Target gives customers a glimpse into the Finnish culture and lifestyle as well as Marimekko’s design heritage. The two brands aimed to create the feeling of an eternal summer and a carefree outdoor lifestyle. The limited-edition collection features playful prints from one of Marimekko’s iconic designers, Maija Isola, and the prints can be seen on the collection’s outdoor décor and furniture, as well as on apparel, swimwear and accessories for women and girls.

"When it comes to our partnerships, we travel far and wide to find designers and brands we think our guests will love," says Julie Guggemos, Senior Vice President, Product Design and Development, Target. "For our spring collaboration, that brought us all the way to Finland! We've had our eye on Marimekko for quite some time, and can't wait for guests to have a chance to shop this limited-edition collection in just a few short weeks."

Viljo Ratia, Armi Ratia and Riitta Iommonen founded the Finnish company in 1951. The company was first introduced to the US by the late Jacqueline Kennedy who bought and wore eight Marimekko dresses throughout John F. Kennedy's presidency. Marimekko currently operates stores in New York, Massachusetts, Mississippi Miami and Vancouver among others.

Marimekko for Target follows the company’s very successful Lilly Pulitzer spring capsule collaboration. Needless to say, Target hopes to replicate the success of its most recent spring collaboration. The company has also collaborated on collections with Missoni, Mulberry, Jason Wu, Jean Paul Gaultier, Peter Pilotto and Alexander McQueen in the past.
 
The 2016 spring capsule collection will be available in the US starting April 17 at all Target stores and on the Target website.
