Unifi buys National Spinning Co.

Published
Apr 17, 2018

Sustainable textile manufacturer Unifi, most recently in the headlines for spinning used water bottles into fabrics for Tracy Reese's Flint Fits capsule, has bought National Spinning Co.

National Spinning's operations will shift to Unifi's dye house - Unifi

The purchase will add acrylic and wool to North Carolina-based Unifi's dyed-yarn portfolio. National Spinning Co. is also based in NC, making the acquisition a big step toward Unifi establishing itself as a large name in the southeast for recycled and synthetic dyed yarn.

"This acquisition will better position Unifi for growth in key market segments such as sweaters, hosiery and apparel, as our expanded dyed yarn portfolio will help strengthen our relationship with existing customers and brings opportunities to attract new customers as we become an even greater solutions provider," said Tom Caudle, president and COO of Unifi, in a release.

National Spinning Co. will shift operations to Unifi's dye house which will run seven days a week to increase output. Unifi will add National Spinning Co.'s sales, technical and operations teams to its employee network, as well as other workers.

National Spinning Co. was founded in the 1920s and was publicly traded in the 1960s and 70s. In the 90s the company shifted to an employee-owned model.

The sale is expected to be completed by May.
