Uniqlo announces two new Canada store openings
Japanese casual apparel retailer Uniqlo announced on Wednesday that it will open two new Canadian stores in the Vancouver-area.
Its newest location in British Columbia will open at the Guildford Town Centre on March 9, while another location is set to open this spring at the CF Richmond Centre.
"The launch of two additional Uniqlo stores in British Columbia is very exciting for us," said Yasuhiro Hayashi, Chief Operating Officer of Uniqlo Canada, in a news statement. "We opened our first store in the Greater Vancouver Area last fall and we received great demand from customers for more stores. This newest expansion demonstrates our commitment to bring LifeWear to more Canadians on the West Coast."
The Guildford Town Centre location will have a total sales floor of 12,800 square feet, and will be located on the second floor of the shopping mall. Meanwhile, the CF Richmond Centre, will feature a total sales floor of 8,010 square feet and will be located on the first floor.
The retailer entered the Canadian market in fall 2016 with the opening of its first store in Toronto at CF Toronto Eaton Centre, followed by a second store opening at Toronto’s Yorkdale Shopping Centre, and a third store opening at Metropolis at Metrotown in Vancouver.
With a total of five stores in Canada set for 2018, Uniqlo still has a number of interesting Canadian cities to expand into including Montreal and Calgary, though no official announcements have been made.
Many other first-to-market retailers such as Nordstrom and Saks Fifth Avenue also chose to first open in Ontario and British Columbia when they entered the Canadian market.
Since opening its first store in Japan in 1984, Uniqlo has around 1,900 stores in 18 markets worldwide including China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, and more.
