Uniqlo to open four new stores in Canada

Japanese fashion retailer Uniqlo announced last week that it will open four new Canadian stores this fall, including three in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and one in the Greater Vancouver Area.

The largest new Uniqlo will open in the GTA at Vaughan Mills, with a sales floor of more than 20,000 square feet. The other two stores in the GTA will open at CF Markville and Square One Shopping Centre, and will measure approximately 15,000 square feet.

Meanwhile, the newest store to open in British Columbia will be located in the Coquitlam Centre and will occupy more than 12,000 square feet of sales floor.

“We’re happy to be bringing LifeWear, thoughtfully created to make everyday life better and more comfortable, to so many new people in Canada through the launch of four new Uniqlo stores,” said Yasuhiro Hayashi, Chief Operating Officer of Uniqlo Canada, in a news statement.

“After much demand from loyal customers we are especially excited to be opening new stores in Ontario for the first time since our Canadian launch in fall 2016.”

The retailer entered the Canadian market in fall 2016 with the opening of its first store in Toronto at CF Toronto Eaton Centre, followed by a second store opening at Toronto’s Yorkdale Shopping Centre, and a third store opening at Metropolis at Metrotown in Vancouver.

The new stores will bring the company’s total Canadian store count to nine with five locations in Ontario and four in British Columbia. Uniqlo still has a number of interesting Canadian cities to expand into including Montreal and Calgary, though no official announcements have been made.

Since opening its first store in Japan in 1984, Uniqlo has around 2,000 stores in 18 markets worldwide including China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, and more.
