Warby Parker partners with UnitedHealthcare

Published

The popular eyewear brand has teamed up with UnitedHealthcare Vision to offer its designer frames through a prescription.

Beginning in 2018, Warby Parker will accept vision insurance for the first time. Participants of UnitedHealthcare’s vision plan will be able to purchase Warby Parker frames with little out-of-pocket costs at the brand’s stores across the United States and through its online store.

“Warby Parker and UnitedHealthcare will help more Americans access designer eyewear at affordable prices to help meet the eye-care needs of the people we serve,” Tom Wiffler, CEO of UnitedHealthcare Specialty Benefits, said in a statement. “We are grateful Warby Parker selected UnitedHealthcare to be its first in-network vision plan.”

Warby Parker’s co-founder Dave Gilboa expressed similar sentiments about the partnership. “We look forward to working with UnitedHealthcare, nationwide, to enable millions of Americans to purchase their eyewear at a fraction of the price they might pay through traditional channels,” he said in a statement.

The partnership is an unprecedented move for the eyewear company, which was founded in 2010 in Philadelphia. Warby Parker also recently announced it would collaborate with Off-White’s Virgil Abloh on a new collection. The brand partners with non-profit VisionSpring to donate one pair of glasses for someone in need for every pair of glasses sold.
