Zara on Thursday opened the doors to a new flagship location on 503-511 Broadway in SoHo in New York City. The retailer replaces Old Navy, which moved out in early 2015.

The 46,361-square-foot store is three floors of retail space that houses the brand’s women’s, men’s and children’s collections. The store is designed entirely by the fast fashion retailer’s architecture team that was challenged with maintaining the building’s landmark features. The SoHo flagship keeps the building’s cast iron façade, interior and brick wall and blends it with an airy interior that features beauty, clarity, functionality and sustainability, which are Zara’s guiding principles. The company also applied for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification for the SoHo store.
Inditex purchased the 503-511 Broadway space for $280 million in January 2015. Architect John B. Snook built the building in 1878.
Inditex Chairman, Pablo Isla, has underscored the importance of this opening and stressed that “it is particularly relevant for several reasons: the quality and size of its location, the environmental component that promotes the goals of our eco-efficient store project, its design, and its technological proposal. From today forward this new flagship will undoubtedly be a global benchmark”.
The retailer now operates eight stores in Manhattan including locations on Fifth Avenue, Lexington Avenue, 34th Street and on 222 Broadway in the Financial District. Zara also has a smaller location in SoHo on 580 Broadway.
