Alibaba and JD.com are leading a major push by e-commerce giants in China to retool their relationship with merchants - offering them a trove of shopper data in return for broader and closer partnerships.
JD.com's ‘6.18’ shopping festival this week hit a record $29.2bn in total sales, driven by new product launches “as well as Chinese consumers’ continued interest in and pursuit of higher quality,” the company said.
