Car maker BMW has inked a five-year licence deal with the eyewear group starting on January 1 2020, for the design, production and distribution of eyeglasses and sunglasses for the BMW, BMW M and BMW M Motorsport lines.
International luxury giant LVMH unsurprisingly announced on Wednesday that it will take over through Thélios the licence for Dior eyewear, once the deal with Italian group Safilo will expire in December 2020.
The Italian executive stepped down from his role as EVP at Marcolin in June in order to concentrate his energies into Thélios, the joint venture between the Italian eyewear group and LVMH which he has led since launch.
After losing the profitable Gucci licence in 2017, the Italian eyewear group has announced the end of the long-standing deal with Dior, whose licence will go to Thélios, the company set up by LVMH and Marcolin.
Italian eyewear group Safilo is working to sign up new brand partners by the end of this year, well before it loses its Dior licence at the end of 2020, Chief Executive Angelo Trocchia said in an interview on Monday.
