Is the coat actually the mistress of a wardrobe? essential to fight against the cold and as it’s the first item that is seen, the coat is essential, and to continue being stylish, designers have come up with different forms, taking inspiration from menswear and famous military coats: long, high collared, double breasted, with trimmings on the sleeves ... a look which is easily identifiable.
for this year, it’s about adding volume. the term cocoon or cocooning comes up repeatedly; wrap yourself up in an overcoat, also it is almost easier to choose a size above or to nick your husband’s coat...
another feature to remember is that colour is very present for the coat. carven and celine dared pastel shades of pink, while michael kors and versace played with bright colors, not to forget our favourite is the fuchsia pink coat by stella mccartney. so to conclude, dare to wear coats with sequins, feathers and other glittering embroidery.
giambattista valli :
c’était le manteau un peu de son boyfriend, c’est un manteau de mec sur cette fragilité de cette petite robe.
it’s almost your boyfriend’s coat; it’s a guy’s coat on top of the fragility of this little dress.
on one hand, we have really done a masculine wardrobe, the big coat and i really want to make the contrast with an idea of ballroom dancing, of ice-skating ; like embroidery that’s a bit too bright and diamonds that are a bit too big ; it’s exaggerated femininity.
