Alber Elbaz Leaves the Lanvin House

access_time 00:02:24

Since the departure of raf simons from christian dior, it’s lanvin’s turn to separate from their iconic creative director, alber elbaz. in charge of the house’s designs since 2001, alber knew exactly how to revive this vulnerable lady, who celebrated her 125th anniversary in 2014. having started in new york at geoffrey beene, the designer born in casablanca then went to guy laroche and yves saint laurent before settling at lanvin with success. his delicate, sensual and timeless style made him the sweet heart of the press and buyers. with him there’s no extravagance but real clothes: he dresses the woman and doesn’t disguise her.this crazy rate of changing designers who are overexposed and pushed to their limits does not look likely to slow down. due to globalization and social media, today, the real luxury is time.interview from alber elbaz:when people think of us, the stylists, they think that we start our life at two o’clock in the afternoon, with a flute of champagne, after a bit of botox, a bit of silicone and then we’re super tired from the whole day. but our fashion life it’s not like that. it’s quite a hard job because we don’t have a library to find the answers; we have to find them ourselves. we have to work from intuition, and we have to use our brains. you have to ask yourself: is that nice? does that work? is that going to be ok? are people going to like it? you also have to think into the future, because even though we work in the present we are thinking in the future. we are not gods, we are human beings and i believe in intuition and in fact the most important thing to have whilst working in this field is to work with a sort of feeling, to make mistakes, and to not be afraid of making those mistakes. today at the same time you are a couturier, a creative director, an artistic director and a bit of an image director who sells icons: the arpege perfume, ‘happy’ bags, the pearls the ballerina pumps, so how can we marry the two extremes of fashion; this sort of fast paced world today where you can just click, erase a story or just click and see everything in a second and at the same time creating time for the process to happen.music free of right / bandit & nikit - 2015
